We are Bodies of Light is a series that was developed while living in Germany in 2024, away from my home, my friends and my family, reworked and completed in Mullumbimby in 2025. A period of solitude and introspection and what I initially imagined would be a romantic and permanent return to my roots unfolded instead as a deeply personal and confronting time of reflection and recalibration. The work itself became a by-product of my lived experience, albeit being German born, experiencing the tensions of displacement, identity, and belonging, and serving as a visual record of my attempts to reconcile the distance between home and self. In the end, I came to understand that home is something I carry within myself. In the stillness of my surroundings, and a ticking clock until I was able to return to Australia, I turned inward and sought colour, structure, and connection through process and material. This work emerged from that space, initially influenced by a meditative practice focused on the seven chakras: Muladhara, Svadhistana, Manipura, Anahata, Vishuddha, Ajna, and Sahasrara. These pieces became a quiet study in energy, symmetry, and the movement from darkness to light. The darkness I was in and the light at the end of the tunnel, (returning to Australia). Each piece symbolises a point of energetic focus, inner stillness, transformation, and the search for light in the midst of emotional and environmental darkness. Exploring ideas of form, colour, balance, and ascension each work is acrylic on canvas, with gold foil, box framed by myself and my Dad with red cedar from my childhood home.

We are Bodies of Light is a reminder to myself, and I hope to others, of the value in returning to stillness and presence. These works have grounded and soothed me throughout this chapter, and I offer them to the world with the same intention, to return to your centre, to realise your potential, understand your interconnectedness to all living things and to remember we are celestial beings...
